Larchwood Care

Oake Meadows care home in Taunton, part of Larchwood Care, has been rated as ‘Good’ following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission. It has retained the rating given at the previous inspection in 2018.

Oake Meadows specialises in the care of older people, including people living with dementia but offers a mix of care and support.

The home is divided into five different areas. One area provides general nursing care, another provides nursing care for people living with dementia and a third provides care to people who have personal care needs. There is also a rehabilitation and reablement unit which is run in partnership with the local NHS Trust and a small unit for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

It was noted by the inspector that ‘People were supported by staff who had the skills and experience to meet their needs’ and ‘Care was adapted to meet people’s needs and abilities’.

The report also said that ‘The staff supported people to maintain relationships with friends and family. Visitors were always made welcome.’

The inspector spoke to a number of residents and family members who gave positive feedback including: ‘The staff are lovely and knowledgeable’, ‘She is a lot happier here than in hospital. Her mobility has improved’, ‘It feels like home. They make you feel welcomed, and all the staff introduce themselves’ and ‘It is absolutely wonderful. They treat him as if he is one of them. I am so satisfied with it here. The staff include me in everything. Can’t fault them they are amazing.’

The home makes a significant contribution to the community in and around Taunton and many families have benefitted from its excellent care.

“To receive a ‘Good’ rating from the CQC once again is excellent and a reward for all their hard work and commitment but to know that our residents and their families truly appreciate the care and support given is amazing.”
