An East Renfrewshire care home’s glamorously glittery Christmas card design has won a design competition and has been posted out to hundreds of recipients.

Eastwood Court care home residents chose a red, gold and glitter stocking for their entry into the Larchwood Care Christmas Card Competition. Their aim was to create a design which captures the sparkle of the festive period and is reminiscent of the excitement they felt when opening stockings as children.

The competition ran across the more than 20 homes across the UK which are operated by Larchwood Care, with the Glaswegian residents’ design selected by a panel of Larchwood staff. It has been used as the Christmas card that Larchwood care has sent to its suppliers, colleagues and residents.

Debbie Martin, care home manager at Eastwood Court, said: “I am so proud of our residents’ artistic skills! The idea of the stocking design came from talking about what makes this time of year so special and some of their memories of Christmas when they were children. They kept coming back to the excitement of seeing their stockings hung up and wondering what Father Christmas had put in there for them.”

Lynn Fearn, managing director of Larchwood Care, said: “Eastwood Court residents have done an amazing job with their design and should be really proud. A Christmas stocking is an instantly recognisable as a symbol of giving, and the colourful glitter reminded us of sitting around a fire with stockings hanging from the fireplace – we simply loved it!”
