Residents Lily House in Ely had great fun designing and building straw-stuffed figures for Larchwood Care Homes’ second annual scarecrow competition.

They created a We Will Remember- themed display, complete with scarecrows in armed forces uniforms.

Lily House chose this theme because it has several residents past and present with a military connection.

All three services are represented alongside a poppy appeal collector.

Kerry Clifton, manager of the home in Lynn Road, along with one of the residents, Trudy Crawford, has spent her spare time knitting the display’s 58 poppies.

Kerry said: “The harvest festival season has a special place in many of our residents’ hearts, with childhood memories of scarecrows often shared during discussions about this time of year.

“The rivalry was intense with the competition for Larchwood homes across the country attracting loads of brilliant entries with residents’ creative juices going into overdrive.

“The judges told us they were blown away by the fantastic entries, which were of a very high standard, and that is why everyone at Lily House is so proud that we were declared the winners.”.

Lily House, which has 44 ensuite rooms, specialises in residential, respite, palliative, and respite care.

It has been ranked as Good by the industry regulator, the Care Quality Commission, with its ratings based on its standards of management and care, its responsiveness and effectiveness, and safety.
