2023 Moody Cup may be ‘biggest and best’ yet

19/07/2023

Junior rugby clubs from across the North of England will be heading to Kingston Park Stadium this August for the return of the 2023 Moody Cup.

This year the final will be held before Newcastle Thunder’s 3pm Betfred Championship clash against Widnes Vikings.

Sponsored by Cramlington-based Moody Logistics and Storage, the Moody Cup is a fantastic grassroots celebration of rugby league for players ranging from U6 to U16.

This summer the club aims to improve the family-friendly atmosphere even further by inviting all players, coaches and spectators to enjoy its popular fan zone with live entertainment and plenty of food and beverage stations, including the famous Kingston Park BBQ.

The Moody Cup, which is being held on Saturday August 5, is free to enter and is open to all grassroots club throughout the North East, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire.

Matches from across all age groups are nine-a-side, with no limit on the number of players per squad – with all participants receiving a complimentary ticket for the following Thunder game. Family and friends can also join the young players in the stands for just £7.

Moody Logistics has sponsored Newcastle Thunder since 2015 and has been associated with the Moody Cup, one of the biggest sporting tournaments of its kind, since its launch in 2018.

Keith Christie, Chairman of Newcastle Thunder, said: “We have had a flood of entries and I hope that this year’s Moody’s Cup will be the biggest and best yet. It’s a real celebration of grassroots rugby league and helps bring together young players right across the North of England.”

Richard Moody, operations director at Moody Logistics and Storage, added: “As a family-run firm that is rooted in the community we are delighted to continue our association with this very special family-friendly competition which encourages, motivates, and showcases the very best of up and coming rugby league talent.”
