Shift to home cooking in Colwyn Bay and Denbighshire is highlighted by oven cleaning expert

02/05/2023

An increasing number of people are eating out less and enjoying more home cooking to beat the cost-of-living crisis, says Phil Davidson, who runs oven valeting businesses Ovenu Colwyn Bay and Ovenu Denbighshire.

He said that his experience is largely in line with the latest British Retail Consortium figures for March, which highlighted that visits to restaurants had fallen.

This, along with the sales of home accessories and furniture helped total retail sales rise by 5.1 per cent in the month, compared with the same period last year, despite households feeling the financial pinch. 1

Phil said: “With the cost-of-living biting, a lot more people are opting to eat in rather than eat out or indulge in a takeaway, which are both becoming increasingly expensive.

“I’ve continued to see an increase in demand for oven cleaning, which reflects the fact that more people are cooking and baking regularly, and clients appreciate that a clean oven not only produces more flavoursome food, devoid of contamination by grease and carbon but that it operates more efficiently and extends its lifespan and is more environmentally friendly.”

A survey by Barclays found that half of the consumers questioned are cutting back on eating out – with restaurant spending falling by 5.1 per cent in March and grocery spending increasing by 7.1 per cent. 2

The latest figures support the experience of Ovenu Denbighshire and Colwyn Bay that householders are continuing to reduce their discretionary spending and are focusing any spare cash on the home.

The Ovenu process involves dismantling key components such as the door, interior panels, fan, and shelves and placing them in design-registered tank equipment, which uses safe, non-caustic and biodegradable products to clean the oven parts. The whole process leaves the oven in a near-showroom condition.

As well as Denbigh, Phil, also covers, Bodfari, Llandyrnog, Groes, Henllan, Nantglyn, St. George, Rhyl, and surrounding areas. In Colwyn Bay, the business also covers Conwy, Rowen, Dolgarrog, Tal-y-bont, Ty'n-y-groes, and Llandudno..
