Gladys Hancock recently celebrated her 101^st birthday at Moorgate Lodge in the company of friends and family at the home.

Entering her second year as a centenarian, Gladys received a warming message from his majesty the king, a first for a resident living at the Rotherham-based care home.

Born and raised in Rotherham, Gladys has been a steadfast figure in her community, embodying the spirit of adventure and the importance of family. Together with her late husband, Albert, Gladys filled her life with adventures, often deciding their next travel destination with a simple point on a map and setting off in their cherished converted campervan.

Gladys and Albert's journey together was blessed with three children - Peter, June, and Shirley - who in turn gave her the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gladys’s pride in her family knows no bounds, and she considers them her greatest achievement.

Gladys said: “I've been blessed with a long and fulfilling life, and throughout my journey, I've had the joy of sharing it with a loving husband, whilst raising three remarkable children.

“The secret to a long and happy life? Being happy and enjoying every moment has been my secret.”
