Peterlee Care Home has made a dream come true for resident Eileen Moses, who is an avid Emmerdale fan.

Eileen, 76, who has lived at the home, which is in Westcott Road in Peterlee, for 17 years, loves the soap opera and makes sure she never misses an episode.

When she revealed to home manager Kayleigh Solomon that it was her biggest wish to visit Emmerdale village, Kayleigh pulled out all the stops to make it become a reality.

Eileen loved her tour of the replica village, which is located in the Yorkshire Dales, and went in the year that the long-running series is celebrating its 50^th anniversary.

Her favourite family in the soap is the Dingles and she was thrilled to have her photo taken next to their van and beside an outfit worn by her best-loved character Cain Dingle.

Eileen’s trip involved a 90-minute, fully guided, outside walking tour, experiencing examples of outside sets used for filming and hearing ‘secrets’ about the production of Emmerdale.

She and Kayleigh also were able to explore exteriors of key locations including The Woolpack, Brenda’s café, the main street, and David’s shop.

Eileen now has some treasured mementos from her grand day out – an Emmerdale mug and a souvenir brochure.

Eileen said: “It is a day I will never forget. I can’t thank Kayleigh enough for organising it.

“We had a fantastic time seeing all the landmarks that feature in the programme and hearing a lot of behind-the-scenes tales from the very informative and entertaining tour guide.”

Kayleigh said: “We are continually looking to enhance our activities and experiences for our residents and like to match their hobbies and interests to what we have on offer.

“So, when I heard that Eileen’s dream was to visit the Emmerdale set I was determined to make it happen.

“To see her smile on that day was amazing. She hasn’t stopped talking about it since.

“Her only disappointment was that her favourite character, Cain Dingle, wasn’t there in person, but she was thrilled to be able to have her photo taken beside one of his outfits that was on display.”
