Tees Valley and North Yorkshire nursery group prepares for extended free childcare with apprentice recruitment bonanza

07/02/2024

Rosedene Nurseries is seeking to appoint 15 new apprentices at its nurseries across Tees Valley as part of preparations to meet the government’s expansion of free childcare for two-year-olds.

The North East-based nursery group has launched its own recruitment campaign, in parallel to the government’s recently announced project, seeking to bridge the gap between current nursery capacity and the anticipated increase in demand. The company is looking to recruit 15 new apprentices across the region who will receive training, development and on-the-job learning to become fully qualified in early years within 2 years.

Alice McCullagh, managing director of Rosedene Nurseries, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to 15 people from across the region who are looking to embark on a career in childcare. The apprentices will receive full support and excellent training to enable them to forge successful careers in childcare.

“At Rosedene we are passionate about the quality of care and support we offer our children and underpinning that, is our fantastic team. Alongside super nursery support, we are focused on making Rosedene an amazing place to work through monthly well-being activities, team-building and community projects.

Rosedene’s Hardwick Manager, Lauren Smith reflects in Rosedene’s new recruitment video, ‘Working in childcare is the most rewarding thing anyone can do’.

“The government’s free childcare offer is a huge step forward that the sector has been crying out for, helping parents into work by supporting with the costs of childcare and enabling children to access early years education from a younger age.

“However, the early years sector is facing its most challenging time. There are a startling number of early years providers closing and those still in operation are finding it really tough.

“Increasing demand for childcare services means that we need to recruit in order to deliver the capacity to grow.”

From April, working parents of children aged two will become eligible for 15 hours of childcare per week during term time, with the scheme further expanded to children aged nine months and over from September.

Under the plans announced by Chancellor, all working parents with children under five will be entitled to 30 hours’ free childcare per week when the scheme is fully operational in September 2025.
