BEAUMONT COLLEGE PRAISED FOLLOWING OFSTED INSPECTION

29/03/2023

Lancaster based Beaumont college has been praised by the education regulator for its programme on developing students toward adulthood and independence.

The college, which also has three satellite sites across Lancashire and Cumbria received a “good” rating from Ofsted following its short inspection in late 2022. It is operated by Salutem Care and Education.

Visiting all of Beaumont’s services, inspectors met many of the 117 students whilst assessing the quality of education being provided by teachers and carers.

The college’s ability to successfully progress students in becoming contributors to society had been recognised by inspectors, who also highlighted the pathway as a key facilitator for this progression, stating that: “Staff skilfully use the results of assessments, students’ education, health and care plans and the PATH person-centred planning process to inform planning and to establish targets and goals for students.”

The unique development pathway offers individual programmes within a curriculum that has strong emphasis on personal development through a clearly assessed framework.

During the inspection, inspectors found that students were confident when introducing themselves but more importantly expressed their eagerness to become active citizens in their community with the report stating: “Students understand the choices they can make regarding their future, such as progression to supported living, supported internships or employment.”

Angela Johnson, principal at Beaumont College said: “We are delighted that Ofsted has confirmed that our colleges for day-students in Blackpool, Barrow and Furness, Carlisle, as well as our main site in Lancaster are providing students with such a positive experience which allows them to fulfil their potential.

“As part of the Salutem family, we have a clear vision for the future, which the Ofsted inspection outlines has firm foundations as a specialist post-16 college, offering provision across the North West”

John Godden MBE, CEO at Salutem said: “Since the previous inspection, the staff at Beaumont have done an incredible job in maintaining a good standard of care and education for all students at the college.

“I’m very proud that they are part of the Salutem family, demonstrating our values at an exceptional standard and being recognised as role models in the care sector at the same time.”
