A Cardiff man had the experience of a lifetime after being invited to the Coronation of King Charles III.

Josh Reeves, 26, who lives at Lewis Martin Court, was invited in recognition of his years as a disability campaigner, which also saw him presented with a British Empire Medal in 2022.

In addition to witnessing the pomp and ceremony of the Coronation in Westminster Abbey, Josh also met singer Lionel Richie and TV favourites Ant and Dec.

In 2015 Josh founded the ‘Don’t Call Me Special’ campaign to share the belief that his disability does not define him. Using his personal experiences as a wheelchair user Josh, who has cerebral palsy and scoliosis, visits schools and other organisations to help people understand discrimination.

His campaign has also taken him to Antigua, to address the Commonwealth Youth Council. He spoke about disability rights, awareness and terminology and was commended for his work by the Antiguan High Commissioner, Her Excellency Karen Mae-Hill.

Josh was also praised by then Prime Minister Theresa May on winning a Points of Light commendation, an award which recognises outstanding and inspirational volunteers. He is now working for the Leonard Cheshire organisation.

Josh said: “This is an experience I will never forget and I am incredibly proud to have been invited.

“Seeing the crowds outside, the fantastic music, a wink from Prince Harry and a smile from the King made it a memorable day.

“I am passionate about disability rights and showing that everyone is the same and that is what the Don’t Call Me Special campaign is all about but I never thought it would lead to me getting medals, awards and attending the King’s Coronation.”
