Three care services have been commended in a national garden makeover contest.

Famille House in Leicester, Grizedale in County Durham and Sully Day Opportunities in Cardiff, which support individuals with learning difficulties, disabilities and complex additional needs, received prizes after giving their outdoor space a face lift.

Famille House took first place after standing out from the crowd with a handwritten signpost placed in the garden, filled with values and quotes from Salutem Care and Education, which operates the service.

Grizedale’s garden was adorned with a variety of flowers and homegrown vegetables, which included beetroots and potatoes, and individuals supported by the service tended to the plants.

Sully Day Opportunities was recognised for its homemade bug house, put together with materials found in their backyard and within the local area. The space was also decorated with flower beds and freshly sown seeds, planted by individuals supported by the service.

The annual Salutem in Bloom competition encourages individuals supported by Salutem services across the UK to bring their unique personalities to their gardens with plants, ornaments and homemade decorations.

All entrants also received a packet of sunflower seeds as a reminder of the experience and make, giving them the opportunity to ensure that their gardens bloom even more next year. their gardens bloom even more.

Dawn Bexton, service manager at Famille House, said “I’m over the moon that our team won the garden transformation competition. It’s nice to see that the hard work has been recognised. The individuals had such a fun experience sharing ideas and being creative.

“At Famille House, we want the people that we support to have fun and try things that they’ve never done before. It was so lovely seeing everyone enjoying the sunshine and getting excited about an idea they like.”

John Godden MBE, CEO of Salutem Care and Education said: “I want to say well done to everyone that took part in the garden transformation competition.

“It was lovely to see that there were lots of innovative ideas and every garden that entered the competition was full of life. We can see the effort that went into every home.”
