Cavendish View School teaching assistant strikes Gold at World Dwarf Games

07/11/2023

Dylan Beaumont, a 23-year-old teaching assistant from Cavendish View School in Liverpool, has brought immense pride to the school and the city, securing Gold and Silver medals at the World Dwarf Games held recently in Cologne.

Dylan showcased his athletic prowess by clinching Gold in the Javelin and a commendable Silver in Power Lifting, lifting an impressive 55kg, which is more than his own body weight.

He began competing in different sports at the age of just two and has won in excess of 150 medals over the last twenty years.

Before joining Cavendish View School, a school for children with special educational needs and Autism, Dylan's career spanned a range of roles. He previously worked at Sainsbury's, followed by a stint as a football coach. But it was his experience at Camp America in Massachusetts that proved to be a turning point. Here, he discovered his deep-rooted passion for working with children, subsequently inspiring him to apply for his current role at Cavendish View School.

His ultimate goal? To become a fully-fledged teacher.

In addition to his professional commitments, Dylan maintains an active lifestyle, regularly training at the gym and playing badminton. He has his sights set on competing next year in Birmingham and is eagerly preparing for the World Dwarf Games in Australia in 2027. Competing at such an international level requires significant funds. After self-financing his participation in Cologne, Dylan is hopeful to find a sponsor for his future endeavours and is in discussions with Salutem Care and Education, the company that operates Cavendish View School, which has agreed to help support him.

Dylan Beaumont said: "Winning these medals is an indescribable feeling. I hope to inspire my students and others with my journey – it’s all about inclusivity and demonstrating that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in competitive sports. Being a part of the World Dwarf Games is an experience like no other, and having a sponsor would be a game-changer."

Charlotte Lilley, headteacher at Cavendish View School, said, "Dylan is an inspiration, not just to the students he works with but to all of us at Cavendish View. His determination, both in his profession and in sport, showcases the spirit we hope to instil in every child here. We're immensely proud."
