COUNTY DURHAM CARE PROVIDER KICKS OFF 2023 WITH HIGHLY REGARDED OUTSTANDING CQC RATING

30/01/2023

Grizedale in Consett, County Durham has received a coveted ‘outstanding’ rating following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The Salutem operated service, which predominantly provides care for individuals with learning disabilities received the rating following its outstanding approach to personalised care.

With the facility being relatively small, workers at Grizedale have the flexibility to tailor their care and meet the needs of the individuals living at the service.

Despite the 150 inspections in total, Grizedale joined just one other social care service, across the North East, in being awarded an Outstanding rating by the Care Quality Commission during 2022.

After employing an impressive team of carers, Grizedale has been praised by inspectors with the report stating in its findings that: “There were enough staff to safely care for people. Staff felt enabled to deliver person-specific care which enhanced people's quality of life. People found the staff were always available and very attentive.”

Having previously received an overall ‘good’ rating, the most recent inspection reflects improvements that have been made at the facility, including service leadership with the report stating: “At this inspection the rating has changed to outstanding. This meant service leadership was exceptional and distinctive. Leaders and the service culture they created drove and improved high-quality, person-centred care.”

Jackie Carr, manager at Grizedale said: “During our recent inspection we received an outstanding rating in three areas which were care, responsive, and well led.

“I’d like to note that in the report, inspectors accurately highlighted our constant strive for excellence at the home, which is something we are very proud of at Grizedale.

“During the pandemic, we were fortunate to never experience COVID at the facility but it’s the hard work from all our staff who maintained high safety standards to ensure we never had any cases.

“We are constantly in contact with members of executive team at Salutem, who are very supportive and often provide us with the necessary tools that are required to fulfil the potential of the individuals we support.”

John Godden, CEO at Salutem praised the work of the staff at Grizedale and said: “Receiving an Outstanding rating by the CQC is always an amazing achievement and it’s great to see our staff at Grizedale are recognised for their dedicated approach to care.”

The independent regulator, CQC, inspects care homes across the country under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
