A care home in Leadgate, County Durham is celebrating after receiving second place in a garden makeover competition.

Grizedale, a residential care home for people with additional needs, is to receive £50 worth of garden centre vouchers for its hard work. All entrants were also given a packet of sunflower seeds as a reminder of the experience and make their gardens bloom even more next year.

The prize-winning garden was adorned with a variety of flowers and homegrown vegetables, which included beetroots and potatoes, and individuals supported by the service tended to the plants.

The annual Salutem in Bloom competition encourages individuals supported by Salutem services across the UK to bring their unique personalities to their gardens with plants, ornaments and homemade decorations.

Jackie Carr, Manager at Grizedale said: “We were thrilled when we were informed about the competition It was such a fantastic excuse to get outside and have something to look forward to. The dedication to making the garden look exceptional was very impressive.

“Our clients are very proud and are looking forward to spending the winnings on more additions to the garden. We will make sure that gardening is something that we continue for all the individuals we support do for years to come.”

“It was lovely to see that there were lots of innovative ideas and every garden that entered the competition was full of life. We can see the effort that went into every home.

Grizedale is a residential care home in County Durham supporting disabled adults with complex needs and mental health issues, which is part of Salutem Care and Education. It is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.
