MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS AT TRURO CARE HOME

16/08/2023

A former failing Spectrum residential care home in Cornwall, which was acquired by Salutem Care and Education in November 2022, has been turned around by its new owners.

High View in Truro, a residential care home providing support for up to five people with a learning disability or autism, was rated Inadequate in June 2021 with the threat of closure from the CQC, but following a recent inspection three areas have been classed as Good.

High View was rated as ‘Good’ in the following areas:

  • Is the service effective
  • Is the service caring
  • Is the service responsive

The report noted that there was a ‘positive, empowering and supportive culture in the service’ and ‘Staff were caring and enjoyed spending time with people.’

The registered manager and staff were also complimentary of the support they had received from Salutem Care and Education since it took over the service.

Relatives commented positively on the environment saying ‘My relative’s room is lovely’. They also said that ‘I know my relative is happy’, ‘my relative has a better quality of life’ and ‘the amount of things (name) does is amazing.’

Staff, relatives and professionals all recognised the positive impacts on people’s wellbeing of their moves to High View – ‘Overall it is much better’, ‘They are improving all the time’ and ‘I have nothing but compliments for them.’

Ann Holt, divisional director – adults at Salutem said: “In the short period of time since we took over running High View there has been an incredible amount of hard work going on to make sustainable improvements for the benefit of the individuals we support.

“When we took over the home it was rated Inadequate and we aimed to drastically improve the support provided, as the people living there deserved better and I’m pleased to see the latest report demonstrates we are heading in the right direction. There is still work to be done but the many positive comments from the CQC inspectors and relatives of the individuals we support demonstrate that we are committed to continuing to improve.”
