PRAISE FROM OFSTED FOR WOLVERHAMPTON CHILDREN’S HOME

10/10/2023

A Wolverhampton children’s home, operated by Salutem Care and Education, has been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted following a recent inspection.

The name and exact location of the home is not being revealed to protect the identity of the vulnerable children who live there.

The inspection team looked at the overall experiences and progress of the children, taking into account how well they are helped and protected and the effectiveness of leaders and managers.

The ‘Good’ rating reflects the improvements made over the last year following 2022 inspections. Since the last inspection, one child has moved out of the home and has successfully moved on to semi-independent living – they told the inspector that the home was ‘the best thing that had ever happened to me, and I would recommend the home to anyone.’

The inspection report noted that ‘Parents, social workers and independent reviewing officers speak highly of the progress that the children are making’ and ‘The children are settled, feel safe and build positive relationships with staff.’

The inspector said that ‘Staff support and encourage the children to lead healthy lifestyles, to engage in activities and hobbies and to learn life skills.’ It was also stated that ‘Children are gaining confidence, and they take pride in their appearances’ and ‘they are building and maintaining friendships, increasing their free time in the local community and going on holidays together.’

Karen Jackson, Divisional Director - Childrens at Salutem said: “Well done to all the team for the hard work and commitment that has led to this very positive report.

“It’s very rewarding to read the comments of the inspector but the words of the young person who has achieved such an amazing outcome are truly heartwarming.

“Our core values centre around providing a safe place and fulfilling opportunities for all the children we support, enabling them to attain the best possible outcomes. This report demonstrates that our homes are achieving this.”
