Salutem Care and Education receives Ofsted registration for new supported living service for young people

28/11/2023

Salutem Care and Education has opened a new supported accommodation service aimed at equipping young adults to live independently.

The newly established Novum House in the West Midlands is committed to employing the 'active support approach' to support young people aged 16–17, to master essential life skills.

The service focuses on assisting individuals transitioning from care into a world of self-sufficiency, whether it be progressing from school to work or further studies, and securing stable long-term accommodation.

The uniqueness of the programme lies in its individual-centric approach, where each young adult is partnered with a dedicated key support worker, ensuring personalised guidance and fostering personal growth.

Novum House encompasses a comprehensive learning framework that includes budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and other independent living skills. Recognising the importance of personal space in development, each young adult at Novum House will be provided with their own front door, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, underscoring a sense of ownership and responsibility.

The first young person to move into Novum House has embraced the challenges of leaving care, starting a job and gaining the skills of independence with guidance and support from staff who are supporting his individual growth and personal development.

Karen Jackson, Divisional Director of Children at Salutem Care and Education, comments, “We are extremely proud to launch Novum House, an initiative that not only offers a roof over the heads of young adults, but also a foundation for a self-reliant and confident future.

“It's about empowering them with the skills and support they need to navigate adulthood successfully and independently, and is a key part of the continuum of care approach that we have created at Salutem.”

This initiative reaffirms Salutem Care and Education's commitment to fostering independence among young adults, preparing them for a future where they are not just surviving but thriving.
