Salutem Care and Education schools join Marvel-Powered Superheroes summer adventure

09/08/2023

More than 130 young individuals from all of Salutem Care and Education’s schools are proud to be taking part in the Superheroes Summer Adventure, an exciting event powered by Marvel.

The initiative, founded by Paralympian Sophia Warner in 2016, aims to create inclusive sporting challenges for everyday superheroes and foster a strong community of Superheroes and supportive Sidekicks.

Superhero Series was born out of the recognition of the limited sporting events available for individuals with disabilities. Its mission is to provide bold, fun, and fully inclusive activities for unsung superheroes who fearlessly confront life's challenges.

The event encourages mass participation in sports and welcomes everyone with a disability to join the Superhero community. The Summer Event is to be held on August 12th at Dorney Lake, Windsor the location of the 2012 Olympic rowing competitions.

In addition to the four annual events, Superhero Series offers an "At Home" option for those unable to attend in person. Participants can engage in the event from anywhere, set their own targets, and log and record their efforts.

For the summer ‘At Home’ missions, participants have a flexible four-week window to complete their missions. They can choose to achieve their goals in one day or gradually increase their super distance over multiple days, from the first event day to the last.

The challenge can be completed using various modes such as running, swimming, pushing, cycling, and more. The event encourages participants to embrace their inner superhero by donning superhero costumes.

Some individuals supported by Salutem Care and Education will have the opportunity to attend the Super-Tri event in Windsor this August. Salutem staff members will be volunteering on the day, further demonstrating their commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and supporting the Superhero community.

The Super-Tri offers participants three distance options, including Sprint, Half, and Full, which encompass swimming, biking, and pushing/running segments.

Additionally, the Superheroes Summer Adventure introduces a Super Sensory non-physical challenge. This segment allows participants to engage in various sensory activities, ranging from blowing and bursting bubbles to touch, sound, sniff, or taste challenges.

John Godden, chief executive of Salutem Care and Education said: “Salutem Care and Education schools are thrilled to be part of the Superheroes Summer Adventure and Superhero Series. The initiative aligns with our commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and creating an inclusive environment where everyone can unleash their inner superhero.

“Physical activity is important for everyone and to have a fun and inclusive way of encouraging this is fantastic. I am incredibly proud of all our Superheroes!”
