STAFF AT LEYTONSTONE CARE PROVIDER RATED ‘GOOD’ BY CQC FOR IMPROVING CARE HOME

16/02/2023

Staff at a care home in Leytonstone have been praised by Care Quality Commission (CQC) for receiving a ‘good’ rating, an improvement from 2020 when it was graded ‘requires improvement’.

Harold Lodge is a 4-bed residential care home in Leytonstone, London, supporting adults with learning disabilities. It is operated by Salutem Care and Education.

The CQC inspects every health and social care service and grades it based on five criteria: safety, effectiveness, compassion, responsiveness to individual needs and management.

The report found that individuals supported by the service feel safe and are well-supported by enough staff who have the appropriate skills and training,

It also found also found they had their own space, which staff respected, and were free to live independently and take part in ‘activities and pursue interests that were tailored to them’.

The CQC stated: ‘The service supported people to have the maximum possible choice, control and independence to be independent and they had control over their own lives’, ‘therefore having the ability to a lead a ‘fulfilling and meaningful everyday life’.

In the CQC inspection report, staff are praised for catering to each resident through the involvement of families of those supported by the service when making decisions such as care planning and reviews. This helps keep families involved and helps improve the overall well-being of those supported by the service.

The CQC also praised the management of Harold Lodge, finding that manager listens to staff and their suggestions and makes regular welfare checks.

Nathaniel Collier, manager at Harold Lodge said: “The team and I are delighted to have been rated ‘good’ in the CQC’s latest report; it is vindication for our hard work since February 2020 in improving on recommendations set out in the earlier report.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the individuals we support and their friends and families for being part of this journey with us. Although the CQC has not asked our service to make any changes, we will endeavour to continue to improve the support and care that we give to our residents.

John Godden, MBE, CEO of Salutem said: “Well done to Nathaniel and the team at Harold Lodge who ensure the individuals they support receive excellent, consistent and personalised care. Their hard work and dedication to actively improve upon the last inspection is commendable.”
