Firm converts skip into swimming pool to cool down staff

19/07/2022

With maximum temperatures soaring to 38 degrees on Teesside (Tuesday, 19th July), bosses at Scott Bros came up with a novel way to allow staff to cool off!

The family-run firm converted one of its skips into a makeshift swimming pool after lining it with plastic sheeting and topping it up with cold water.

Director Peter Scott said: “It certainly beats a hot tub in this kind of weather and for once we don’t mind staff ‘skip-ing’ work a while to cool down. We might even start a new trend among cold water swimmers!”

Neil Crawford, a machine operator at the Stockton-on-Tees skip hire and recycling firm, added: “We’ve been happy to get on with our jobs despite the heat, but this is a proper treat. It’s almost as good as being by the pool in Benidorm!”

Editor’s Notes

Scott Bros. is one of North East England’s leading recycling businesses. Founded on Teesside in 1972, it was predominantly involved in the supply of tipper lorries and excavators to local authorities and the construction industry. However, since then the company has grown exponentially to deliver a comprehensive range of ‘circular economy’ services.

While still being heavily involved in haulage, skip and plant hire, the business has continually diversified to provide a comprehensive range of recycling services.
